Southern France Tasting Notes

Domaine du Poujol, Vins d'Pays de l'Herault "Proteus" 2005
Color: Purple and relatively clear
Aromas: Very strong barnyard, hay/straw, tobacco, and kirsch
Taste: Soft tannins, liqourish mouthfeel, dried herbs, sawdust and hints of olives
Finish: A reasonably long finish with the suprising flavor of green apples and some dried herbs
Rating:88
Price: $13

Le Muscle Cotes de Roussillon 2005
Color: Burgundy (the color, not the Pinot)
Aroma: Deep berries, mint, strawberries, a facinating cardamom note with bits of asparagus and roses
Taste: Peppery, balanced tannins, black tea, and pink peppercorns
Finish: Some fresh herb (?), peppers and a strong and lasting currant.
Rating: 89+ pts
Price: $20

Bertrand Berge Cuvee Ancestrale Fitou, 2004
Color: Dark Plum
Aroma: Overwhelming manure, smoke, cigar box, strong plum, hints of blueberry and licorice, and buttercream notes mixed with some persimmon
Flavor: powdered chocolate, come cherries and strawberries
Finish: awkward combination of blueberries/strawberry tarts, raw flour andsome green peppers
Rating: 89
