Borgogno Giacomo Borgogne & Figli Barolo Classico Riserva
Color: Orangish Brick
Nose: Stong sweet tobacco, tar, hints of birch and dandelion backed up with a hefty helping of spearmint, raw ground walnut with hints of saffron, blueberries, and mint jelly
Flavor: Gripping tannins, tabacco and dirt at first which yield to strong flavors of shitakes on the mid-palate and finishes off with bitter orange peel, burnt nuts and bitter greens (but in a delicious way).
Notes: I had this with a bit taste of Caseifico dell'Alta Langa Robiola Bosina cheese which paired beautifully and turned the bitter aftertaste into an almost caramel like explosion.
